Why we are putting our prices online

One of the first things people ask us, before they ask anything else, is what it is going to cost. And most of the time they ask it carefully, because they have been overcharged before and they are trying not to say so.

The reason that question is so hard to answer in Lagos is that nobody publishes anything. There is no reference point anywhere. So when a quote lands in your hand, you have no way of telling whether it is fair or whether somebody just looked at your gate and decided. That situation suits whoever is doing the quoting, and it has suited them for a long time.

So let us just put the numbers out. What follows is not a rate card and these are not estimates. Every line below is a job we finished, with the work written out and the money split between what we bought and what we charged to do it. If a number here looks high to you, you will be able to see exactly which part of it is high, and that is the whole point.

Some of the jobs we completed in August 2026

Cheapest first. This is a selection, not the full month, and locations are given as the area only, because the work is public but the customer is not. The last column is what was actually paid. The middle column is everything that was not materials, so the workmanship, the transport and any fee, which is why the two always add up to the total.

Now here is the part I want you to see

Look at the materials column on the repair jobs. Across the nineteen jobs in that table where we bought parts, materials came to ₦434,280 out of ₦719,055. That is sixty percent. Most of what you paid went to the part, not to the person who fitted it.

That is not us being generous. It is just what the work is. A mixer tap costs what a mixer tap costs, a fuel pump costs what a fuel pump costs, and nobody in Lagos controls those prices. What we can control is whether you get to see the split.

You will notice some lines show zero under materials. Those are the cleaning, fumigation and septic jobs, where the chemicals and the consumables sit inside the service fee instead of being listed on their own. It does not mean nothing was bought. It means that kind of work is not priced that way.

What this should tell you when the next quote arrives. A quote that gives you one round number, with nothing broken out, is hiding which half is which. You cannot tell whether you are paying for an expensive part or an expensive artisan, and you cannot argue with it either, because there is nothing to point at. Every SmartFix quote separates materials, workmanship and transport, and writes out the scope of the job, so you and the artisan are looking at exactly the same thing before anybody starts work.

The range is wide, and the fault is rarely the reason

Five thousand naira and two hundred and twenty thousand naira, same month, same company. What decides which bill comes to you is almost never the fault itself. It is how long you left it unattended.

There are two plumbing jobs in that table that make the point better than I can. Somebody noticed water under a water closet tank, called us that same week, and we changed the hose behind the WC and were done before evening. That came to ₦16,525. Somebody else had a bum washer leaking and left it, until the control had gone and the float master had gone with it. That one came to ₦63,800.

Same family of problem. Four times the money. The only difference was how early somebody looked.

Common questions about what repairs cost in Lagos

How much does it cost to fix a leaking toilet in Lagos?

In August 2026 our toilet jobs ran between ₦15,350 and ₦63,800. Changing a faulty ball valve came to ₦15,350. A leak under the water closet tank came to ₦16,525. The big one, where a bum washer, a control and a float master all had to be dealt with at once, came to ₦63,800. The difference is how many fittings had already failed by the time somebody looked.

How much does generator repair cost in Lagos?

Our generator jobs in August 2026 ran from ₦5,000 to ₦67,500. Setting the valve and carburettor came to ₦5,000. Servicing a 7.0kVA generator came to ₦23,125. How much does it cost to service an air conditioner in Lagos?

How much does septic tank evacuation cost in Lagos?

Evacuating an overfilled septic tank came to ₦50,000 in August 2026.

Why does SmartFix separate materials from labour on a quote?

Because on repair work materials are usually around sixty percent of the bill, and if you cannot see that split you have no way of judging whether the quote is fair. Itemising it removes the argument before it can start.

Are SmartFix artisans verified?

Yes. Every artisan on every job in this table was verified before being sent to a customer. We call people who have worked with them, we check the trade, and nobody reaches your house on our word alone.

Have you been putting something off because you do not know what it will cost? Tell us what is wrong and we will give you the range. Free, whether you use us or not.

Every figure here is taken straight from our completed job records for August 2026. Nothing has been rounded. This is a selection of the month’s work rather than all of it, and locations are given as area only. It is the first of a monthly series, so the September numbers will follow in October, and every month after that.
